Professor Bruce Hoffman is an internationally renowned expert on counter-terrorism and national security and has been studying terrorism and insurgency for almost half a century.

Please join us for a lunchtime event where Professor Hoffman will speak in conversation with Lydia Khalil, Lowy Institute Research Fellow on Transnational Challenges. Professor Hoffman will discuss his latest book, God, Guns, and Sedition, which traces the trajectory of far-right terrorism in the United States, and assesses its present-day dangers, its relationship with mainstream politics, and the harm it poses to US and global security.

Bruce Hoffman is a Professor at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, Senior Fellow for Counter-terrorism and Homeland Security at the Council on Foreign Relations, and Senior Fellow at the US Military Academy’s Combating Terrorism Centre. In addition to his latest book, he is also the author of the acclaimed Inside Terrorism. He has held numerous government and academic appointments, including at the University of St Andrews and as commissioner on the Independent Commission to Review the FBI’s Post-9/11 Response to Terrorism and Radicalisation. Hoffman was a lead author of the Commission’s final report. Professor Hoffman holds degrees in government, history, and international relations and received his doctorate from the University of Oxford.
